Tango Shower Thoughts
Unfortunately I really like to think about tango a lot. Like a lot. Possibly too much. Oh well, at this point I didn’t ever think about thinking about it until I was contemplating a new blog post topic.
As per my casual language here, I have been thinking of putting out more informal blog posts on the thoughts that I have about tango on the regular. So for my inaugural venture into this format, here are some tango shower thoughts this week.
Some of are goofy, some unfinished, some poetically thought out. Per the subreddit r/ShowerThoughts these are unlikely to be true shower thoughts, but in the categories of speculation, musings, and casual thoughts. I like the title Tango Shower Thoughts more, rather than Tango Casual and Speculative Musings.
Contrast makes dancing super interesting: the sudden flip from slow to quick, following that background musical thread instead of the first melody, an active embrace even when hugging close or staying totally open. It’s unveiling a conversation inside the tanda.Disassociation's complex, but it’s the quiet secret that lets balance and precision do their jobs and for fluidity to shine.Embrace styles are fascinating: whatever the outer style, the same inner quality throughout while still bending and adapting moment to moment opens the door for dreamy dancing.Intention is extremely nebulous to explain but clear in…..intent?Tango feels like excavation. We are digging our hands in the grit of history and trying to understand where we have never been. Some revel in the knowledge, others only want to know the minimum to fit their desires, some want to dance, others want something new of the same name.
